THE PIG-at Combe recruits 100 local staff

The PIG-at Combe will open on 18th July near Honiton. The hotel has recruited 100 staff from the local area having taken over Combe House Manor in October. The group have made an investment of £9 million to revamp and restore to create a new boutique hotel in Devon.
The hotel had already recruited 70 staff from the local area but the skills and enthusiasm shown from the Devon applicants led to a further 30 being added to the rosta.
Fiona Moores, the new general manager of THE PIG-at Combe said, “We were impressed with the local skills and talent as well as the enthusiasm of the prospective staff.” This huge recruitment comes after the hotel held two open days in April.
Fiona has a long association with Exeter and the surrounding area, holding previous roles in many of the city’s top hotels, a non-executive position on the board of Exeter’s Northcott Theatre and being an active member of The Exeter & Heart of Devon Hotel Association.
THE PIG-at Combe will be the fifth hotel in the portfolio and will show many of the familiar PIG characteristics including quirky decor, courtesy of Robin Hutson’s wife Judy, and the kitchen garden. THE PIG-at Combe will also have some unique addition. The old garden folly for example has been ‘semi-restored’ into an atmospheric indoor/outdoor bar and dining area with wood fired oven, oversized tables and benches.
The property stands in 3,000 acres of property and is a Grade 1 listed boutique hotel. Fiona Moore has stated “we want down to earth staff but enthusiastic staff. I was really surprised to see the broad demographic of people who applied for jobs here.” The hotel is totally secluded, set in 3,000 acres of Devonshire countryside, yet just 1.5 miles from Honiton and just off the A30. It is 15 minutes by road to Exeter and just three hours to London.
